Why are so many people unhappy about the Pokemon patent? Well, that's what I'll be talking about in today's blog post! A lot of people have been talking about this, and they don't like it. It seems harmless enough, and I doubt Pokemon will use it for most games. But it opens the door for worse things. Nintendo is greedy, and they've been getting worse with time. If Pokemon can patent a game mechanic, what's stopping Nintendo from doing the same thing? They could patent a lot of things that are in their games. For example, Mario has always been a platformer. What if Nintendo patents platformer games? Where does it end? What if they get so many patents that Nintendo is the only one who can make games? This is the issue. The problem is, Pokemon didn't invent the summoning monsters mechanic. But somehow they got the patent anyways. So what's stopping them from getting other things they didn't invent? This is why people hate this decision. It doesn't make sense, and it threatens other games. I hope fans are listened to so Pokemon loses this patent, but I doubt that'll happen.
