Today is Tanabata in Japan! So for today's blog post, I will be talking about Tanabata. Even though it's only July 6th here in the states, it's July 7th in Japan. So, I decided to talk about it today instead. Tanabata, or the Star Festival, is a festival that takes place once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi, who are represented by the stars Vega and Altair. Tanabata also involves the tradition of writing wishes on colorful strips of paper called Tanzaku, which are tied onto bamboo. This festival is very well-known in Japan, and it often appears in anime because of this. Although there is much more to say about this festival, this is all I will be saying about it to prevent this post from becoming too long. As a little bonus, I will be including an anime picture involving Tanabata below so you guys can see what it looks like. Enjoy! Happy Tanabata!
