Why are there so many abusive or absent parents in anime? Well, that's the subject of today's blog post! Although this trope isn't only used in anime and manga, it is a very common thing to see in this type of media. So, why is this? The answer is, character building! Many characters are based almost solely on their traumatic past. Although this is a bit morbid, it does make a more empathetic hero. Parents are usually the first caring people a child meets. So, making the parents abusive or nonexistent adds more depth to a character. Even though this makes sense for the story, it can seem a bit tired. It can also have negative affects on any fans who experienced a similar problem. I personally would prefer if anime and manga, along with other media, chose a different way to add depth to their characters. But, these are mostly just my thoughts on this topic. Nonetheless, I hope you all still enjoyed this blog post!
