What makes something a Pokemon clone? Well, that's what I'll be talking about in today's blog post! Many things have been accused of being Pokemon clones throughout the years. Things like Digimon, Dinosaur King, and even Yo-kai Watch. Anything with a "gotta catch 'em all" style is usually written off as just another Pokemon clone. However, I disagree with this. Many "Pokemon clones" are very different from the actual Pokemon series. If something has lots of different animal-like creatures that have to be caught so they can battle each other, it obviously is very similar. But, it isn't identical. As long as there's some sort of distinct difference, then a series will be able to stand on its own. It's fine to make comparisons between similar things, but writing off every new animal collection series as just another Pokemon clone is harmful to the series. It causes new potential fans to look past it without even giving it a chance, even though the series could be good. It's especially ridiculous when there are actual Pokemon rip-offs out there. I think every new series deserves a chance, and a series sharing elements with Pokemon doesn't mean they're trying to rip it off. Pokemon is such a popular and well-known series that it has inspired a lot of people now. But, those are mostly just my thoughts on this topic. Nonetheless, I hope you all still enjoyed this blog post!
