What makes an otome game an otome game? Well, that's what I'll be talking about in today's blog post! For those of you who don't know, otome games are dating sims specifically targeted towards women. However, not every women targeted game with a lot of pretty flirty men are otome games. But, why is this? Well, it's because you can't date them. Of course, these two genres used to be the same. But since you can generally date characters in an otome game, they were divided. Despite this, you can't always date specific characters in an otome game either; which usually happens in games with a lot of characters who all love the protagonist. As long as you get a romantic interaction, it's an otome game. But if you don't, then it isn't. It's a pretty easy way to tell these things apart.
