Okay, so I have been seeing the Pokémon theory of Gengar being Clefable's shadow for quite a while now. I'm not sure how long this theory has been around, but today I will be reviewing the facts and seeing if this theory could be true or if it is false. Now, on with the post! For the first piece of evidence, people often say that Gengar has a similar body shape to Clefable. I can see the similarities between them, since they do have a similar size, body shape, fingers, and ears. However, Gengar doesn't have the same wings that Clefable has. In fact, Gengar doesn't have anything on its back at all, except for maybe some spikes. They also don't have the same tail. Another part of the theory is that Clefable's normal typing makes it so it can't hurt Gengar because of Gengar's ghost typing. This would make sense because you can't hurt your own shadow. However, Clefable is actually a Fairy typing now, and Gengar is a ghost/poison type. This was most likely done to go along with Clefable's appearance, but its typing most likely wouldn't have been changed if the fans were supposed to draw this comparison between these two Pokémon. Another argument is that Gengar is called the shadow Pokémon, but there's actually a reason for this too. It's because Gengar will pretend to be a person's shadow in order to sneak up on them. In my opinion, Gengar would have most likely already been revealed to be Clefable's shadow by now if it was supposed to be. It would have most likely been a dark type instead of a ghost type as well. So, I'll have to say that I personally think this theory is false. Now, I could be wrong. But, we probably would have had confirmation of this theory by now if it was true, especially with the new darker Pokedex entries that reveal many of the true origins of Pokémon from previous games. However, this is just my opinion on it, so don't take it too personally!
