The Lantern Rite is currently underway in Genshin Impact! However, that's not what I'll be talking about today. Instead, I'll have to give a spoiler warning first. So if you haven't started the Lantern Rite quest yet, proceed with caution! Now then, let's get on with it! In this year's Lantern Rite quest, the human forms of Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper have been revealed. But to the disappointment of fans, they were just modified NPC models. This is a huge disappointment, especially for adepti. But! I have a theory. I don't think that's really what they look like. Adepti can choose what they look like, and Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper were trying to keep a low profile. Much like how Madame Ping is currently using an NPC model, but has been shown to also have a unique design as well. Along with this, it would be a little weird for them to reveal them with playable character models right away. I think the designs we got in the Lantern Rite quest were really just human disguises, and any potential playable character designs will be revealed later. How bird-like are the birds in Hatoful Boyfriend? Well, that's what I'll be talking about in today's blog post! Hatoful Boyfriend is the series known for being a bird dating sim. However, the birds are more human-like than bird-like. They walk around instead of flying, and they even eat human food; with a few exceptions. The birds also wear clothes sometimes as well, and the birds of Hatoful Boyfriend are so human-like that they're even attracted to humans. Along with this, it's also implied that humans are attracted to the birds as well. Which is, a strange sentence. But I digress. The human versions of the birds we get aren't just so we can relate to them better, but they're also accurate representations of what the birds look like as humans. This is actually confirmed in the games, too. Okosan is the most bird-like bird in the whole series, and he's the only one without a human version. This means the birds are more human-like than bird-like. Of course this brings up the question of why they even had to be birds at all, but I personally think them being birds makes the series more unique and memorable. Most of the official artwork shows them in their human forms anyways, so it doesn't really matter one way or another. But, those are mostly just my thoughts on this topic. It's time for another new blog post! For today's blog post, I will be talking about the problem with anime and gender. Yesterday I talked about the issues with body image, so I wanted to talk about gender today. Anime is well-known for confusing characters. There are super feminine girls and majorly masculine guys, but there are also feminine guys and masculine girls. People call the latter types of characters traps, but that really depends on the character. A good example of this is Astolfo from Fate Grand Order. He often gets mistaken for a girl even though he's openly a male. He isn't trying to fool anyone at all, and most characters aren't trying to fool anyone. They just wear whatever they like. Another good example of a complex character is Grell Sutcliff from Black Butler. Grell dresses however he wants, and refers to himself by male and female terms. He's similar to a drag queen, but people assume he's trans; even though nothing has even hinted to this being true. A male being feminine or a female being masculine does not mean they're trans. It just means they're comfortable enough with who they are to dress and act however they want. In this sense, it isn't anime that has the problem; but rather the fans that assume they know things even if the creators themselves say that isn't the case. But, those are mostly just my thoughts on this topic. Personally I have no issue with these gender non-conforming characters, or just people being themselves in general. It's actually pretty fun to see such a variety in anime, as long as people don't project their own ideas so heavily on the characters. Headcanons are fine, but only if they're left at that. It's post time! For today's blog post, I will be talking about the problem with anime and body image. Anime is pretty notorious for having really unrealistic body standards. Of course it is, because anime is just animation; so the characters can look however the animators want. However, it's a bit more than this. There are a lot of anime series that make fun of characters for their weight, regardless of if they're male or female. The characters don't even have to actually be overweight at all. This kind of makes sense for fitness anime, but even anime series that have nothing to do with fitness will add little off-hand comments about a character's weight or appearance. It is important to note that most anime comes from Japan, which is pretty well-known for being more in shape than other places. It can still be a problem though; especially for people who may look like the characters being picked on. People are often self-conscious of how they look even when there's nothing wrong with them, and seeing a character who may be like them being picked on because of their appearance would likely make it worse. Of course the best advice is to remember that most of these little insults are meant as jokes, and they aren't meant to be serious at all. But it's also important to remember that anime and manga isn't real anyways, and the characters in the series have a different view of things than people normally do. Regardless, those are mostly just my thoughts on this topic. Nonetheless, I hope you all still enjoyed this blog post!
